What defines this style?
Realism tattoos use value, light, texture and proportion to suggest a lifelike subject. Some pieces follow a photograph closely, while others combine realistic elements into a custom composition. Black and gray is common in this collection, with color and surreal elements appearing in selected examples.
Ideas and design direction
A crowned lion, an expressive face, an eye, a ship or a classical figure can each become the focal point. Choose references for the qualities you want: lighting, expression, texture or atmosphere. An artist can help simplify backgrounds and choose details that remain readable at the proposed size.
Planning your tattoo
Bring clear source photographs and identify the exact features that matter. A dark, blurry or heavily filtered reference may not provide enough information for a detailed interpretation. Placement and scale affect how much texture can fit; discuss those before committing to a tiny version of a complex image.

Questions before you book
Can realism tattoos be done in color?
Realistic work can use black and gray or color. Share the look you prefer so the studio can discuss the appropriate artist and approach for your idea.
What should I send for a realism estimate?
Send a clear reference, the body placement, approximate width and height, and whether the area already has tattoos. These details help the studio assess the design and next steps.
